1983 - 1992 |
Edmonds School District (Mainstream Coordinator) I served as a liaison between the center providing ancillary services, the neighborhood schools, and the families of students with significant disabilities. Within-District educational and awareness opportunities regarding those handicapping conditions were provided to regular staff and to non-handicapped students. Environmental and classroom modifications were designed and implemented to meet the needs of students with unique needs, in the role of the District Section #504 coordinator.
|
1978-1983 |
Project Change (Teacher/Research Assistant with Peabody and Vanderbilt, in collaboration with Nashville Metro School District) I participated in an experimental project supporting the de-institutionalization of individuals diagnosed with severe or profound handicapping conditions into regular communities and school environments. In addition to the teaching responsibilities, the position required the provision of awareness opportunities for receiving regular education students and staff regarding the intellectual, communicative, and physical disabilities of those previously institutionalized. Families were offered behavioral training and help interfacing with various community agencies.
